SRO Motorsports Group and Pirelli World Challenge (PWC) have approved the addition of the Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo and Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo for competition in the GT Cup class at the Six Hours of the Americas event and three SprintX events.

This expands the venue and race options for the two Super Trofeo cars, in addition to the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North American series for the Huracán in 2016.

The six-hour race March 5 at Circuit of the Americas is the first GT3-only endurance race in North America. It is part of the planned Intercontinental GT Challenge, which will bring together competition from the Liqui Moly 12 Hours of Bathurst in Australia, the Total 24 Hours of Spa in Europe and the Sepang 12 Hours in Asia.

Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo and Gallardo Super Trofeo participants will compete in the GT Cup class for the event alongside the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 in the GT3 class.

The six-hour endurance race will be the PWC season opener, with global broadcast coverage and prize money for the top two GT Cup finishers. Registration for the event will remain open until Feb. 12.

The three additional events open to Lamborghini Huracán and Gallardo Super Trofeo participants will be run under the PWC SprintX GT Championship Series banner in the GT Cup class.

Those six rounds will be May 19-22 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Aug. 12-14 at Utah Motorsports Campus and the season finale Oct. 7-9 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, with two rounds at each event.

PWC’s intent for SprintX is to offer drivers a chance to participate in events similar to other series where GT3 machinery is used for endurance racing. But with SprintX, PWC will eliminate the costs of adding extra crew members for full pit stops.

Each race will be 60 minutes, with a mandatory driver change, no refueling and the option for two tires to be changed, similar in format to the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North American championship.

These options allow the Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofeo to continue to race despite the retirement of the car from Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo competition in all three series—North America, Europe and Asia—starting in 2016.
