Colin Thompson held off a hard-charging Kenton Koch for his second IMSA Prototype Challenge presented by Mazda Series victory of the season, in a frantic single race of the weekend at Lime Rock Park.

Thompson took his No. 14 Kelly-Moss Road and Race Norma M30 to a 0.391-second win over Koch in the No. 8 P1 Motorsports Ligier JS P3, after dicing through traffic that impacted the fight for the win.

The pole-sitting driver’s early two-second two-second advantage was eliminated  by the race’s one-and-only full-course caution, coming on Lap 2 for the No. 3 Extreme Speed Motorsports Ligier of Naj Husain, who made impact with the barriers at Big Bend.

Once restarted, Thompson held his advantage, but only narrowly over Koch, who made multiple attempts for the lead but was unable to complete the pass, most of the time due to traffic.

Thompson held on to take top overall honors, extending his LMP3 championship lead as a result.

Kyle Masson completed the overall podium in third, taking MPC class honors for the eighth time in nine races this season, in the No. 18 Performance Tech Motorsports Elan DP02.

He edged out the No. 7 JDC Motorsports MPC entry of Kris Wright, who was second, and the No. 17 P1 Motorsports Ligier of Robby Foley completing the top-five overall and finishing third in LMP3.

Thirteen of the 15 cars finished the 45-minute race, which ran without major incident, other than Husain’s spin and a few MPC cars slowing on track.

RESULTS: Race
