BMW has revealed a teaser image of its M8 GTE, as on-track testing for the new-for-2018 car has begun.

An artist’s depiction of the car was posted to the German manufacturer’s social media channels on Tuesday, featuring a sleek and shorter profile compared to the new production model, as rumored.

While photos have yet to surface, it’s understood testing is already underway, with an initial rollout having been completed last week in Germany and an additional test having taken place at the Lausitzring.

BMW Team MTEK will run the car in the FIA World Endurance Championship as an expected two-car GTE-Pro effort, with a continued factory program also set for the GT Le Mans class ranks of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, although with a to-be-confirmed team.

It’s understood Team RLL’s contract is again up at the end of this year, with other teams, including Andretti Autosport, reportedly set to make a bid for the IMSA program.
