Conway, Toyota Unofficially Break Sebring Track Record

Toyota has unofficially broken the Sebring track record, just hours into the first on-track action in preparation for next week’s 1000 Miles of Sebring.

Mike Conway, piloting the No. 7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid, laid down a quick lap of 1:42.673 in Saturday morning’s test session on the Florida airfield circuit.

It was more one-second quicker than the current record, held by Marcel Fassler in an Audi R18 e-tron quattro from the 2013 Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

The pair of Toyotas, which are making their Sebring race debuts, are among the nearly 30 FIA World Endurance Championship entries taking part in a two-day test session that kicked off on Saturday.

Testing will conclude on Sunday afternoon, with WEC cars set to return to the 3.7-mile circuit on Wednesday for the start of official on-track action as part of the joint WEC/IMSA weekend.

Friday’s 1000-mile/eight-hour enduro will mark the first WEC race at Sebring since the championship’s inaugural round held in 2012, as a combined race with the American Le Mans Series.
