Larbre Competition could run Corvette’s new C7.R in next year’s FIA World Endurance Championship.

The French squad, which has campaigned Pratt & Miller-built Corvette C6.Rs for the past three seasons, is understood to have been lobbying the ACO to allow the new-for-2014 C7.R to compete in the GTE-Am category.

GTE-Am class regulations prohibit current model year cars, although Porsche’s 911 RSR, which received significant end-of-season updates, will be allowed to race in both GTE-Pro and GTE-Am next year since the car raced in that spec in 2013.

“Complications regarding the homologation of Corvette’s new C7.R mean we can’t yet confirm our 2014 plans, but we will go back to the team’s roots in order to create new challenges which we’ll announce as early as January,” team principal Jack Leconte said in a statement.

While yet to make its race debut, Corvette’s highly anticipated new GTE-spec contender has completed a significant amount of pre-season testing in the lead up to next year’s TUDOR United SportsCar Championship season-opening Rolex 24 at Daytona.

It’s believed Larbre could take delivery of the factory squad’s test car, if its C7.R program would be given the green light.
