Porsche’s 919 Hybrid Evo returned to the Nürburgring Nordschleife on Monday, but unlike last month’s pre-race appearance, was not limited to pace lap speeds.

The 1000-plus horsepower beast was spotted by multiple sources lapping the legendary 12.93-mile German circuit at considerable pace, with the track having been rented exclusively by Porsche for the day.

It’s understood the test was used to gather data and develop a setup for a likely attempt at the lap record held by the late Stefan Bellof in a Porsche 956 C.

The German manufacturer confirmed via social media that Timo Bernhard was behind the wheel of the car for “testing” and hinted that the reigning FIA World Endurance Champion could be back soon for another run.

Neel Jani broke the outright Spa track record in April, in the first publicized appearance for the highly modified LMP1 car, which has been on a worldwide tour since.

Porsche has hinted that additional record-breaking attempts have been planned.
