Porsche has been given a 8kg weight break ahead of tomorrow’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, in at least one pre-race Balance of Performance change handed down by the FIA on Friday afternoon.
Both the Manthey-run Porsche 911 RSRs will head into the race with less weight, after struggling for top speed in both practice and qualifying this week.
It’s understood the mid-engined GTE-Pro contenders were up to 9 km/h slow on the straight, with the German manufacturer requesting an increased air restrictor, but instead getting a minor weight break, which should help under acceleration.
The change is the second year in a row the FIA has adjusted BoP on race week at Le Mans, following last year’s controversial changes that impacted nearly all of the GTE-Pro cars just hours before the race start.
