Rebellion Racing has taken the wraps off its new LMP1 contender, the Rebellion R13 Gibson, ahead of the car’s debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship this season.

The Swiss squad revealed the first computer-rendered images of the ORECA-built prototype Tuesday at the Geneva Motor Show, with the build of the first car still ongoing.

It features a design similar to the Oreca 07 LMP2 car, on which the car is based.

Ex-Porsche LMP1 drivers Neel Jani and Andre Lotterer will be joined by Bruno Senna, Mathias Beche, Gustavo Menezes and Thomas Laurent in the two-car operation.

“It’s the first time I saw the car today and it looks quick. I’m really looking forward to driving the car,” Jani said to assembled media in Geneva.

The 2016 LMP1 World Champion returns to Rebellion in a full-season capacity following his four-year stint with the German manufacturer, which also saw the Swiss driver claim overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“The reason why I thought to come back to Rebellion was the package,” Jani said. “I thought with ORECA doing the car, the engine, the experience Rebellion has gained over the last ten years, is enough where I think we can hopefully be in a position to at least fight for the podium and maybe even be in position for a race win.

“That’s clearly a big aim for all of us.”

Beche added: “ORECA is working super hard to produce a great car. I think we have an amazing package. We have to be pleased with it.

“We have to do our best and hopefully have a great result at Le Mans.”

The team expects to take delivery of its first car shortly prior to next month’s Prologue pre-season test at Paul Ricard.
