SMP Racing’s new BR1 prototype will be launched this week in Bahrain, ahead of its debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship next season.

An unveil of the Dallara-built LMP1 car has been scheduled for Friday evening in the Bahrain International Circuit paddock, with a presentation to be made by BR Engineering President Boris Rotenberg.

It will mark the first Russian prototype and team to compete in the LMP1 class.

The car was the first new-for-2018 entry to hit the ground, having already completed multiple tests in Europe ahead of its debut next season, where SMP is expected to field two cars.

Ex-IndyCar ace Mikhail Aleshin has been tasked the majority of the car’s development and is expected to be confirmed in one of the race seats, with one car likely to feature an all-Russian lineup.
