GTD Also Set to Switch Back to 2014 Driver Ratings Regulations

Sportscar365 has learned IMSA is set to adjust the driver pairing regulations back to 2014 regulations for GT Daytona, as it will also do for Prototype Challenge, in advance of the upcoming 2015 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship season.

With the change back, both PC and GTD are expected to have a two-driver minimum of Silver and Bronze-rated drivers in three or four-driver lineups, rather than one as was originally released last Friday.

The change back from one to two comes in response to competitor feedback following the IMSA competition memo issued last Friday.

As was the case in PC, IMSA sought further competitor feedback from the GTD community to determine whether the change to one would be feasible when it came to determining lineups for the endurance races, where in many cases, a second driver would bring budget.

The changes outlined in last Friday’s memo could still be implemented for 2016, when full FIA GT3-spec machinery comes to GTD.

Formal confirmation from IMSA of both the PC and GTD regulations changes is expected to come next week.
