While Lamborghini is currently not present with an official GT3 car, that is expected to change in the short-term with the arrival of the new Huracan GT3, while a Super Trofeo version for the popular one-make series is also set to debut next year. (En Français)

In an exclusive interview last weekend at Monza, Giorgio Sanna, Lamborghini’s chief test and development driver, confirmed the Italian manufacturer’s plans for the future, while also not ruling a Lamborghini prototype in the years to come.

“We will first prepare a Super Trofeo version [of the Huracan] before releasing a GT3 model,” Sanna said. “There is no schedule for its competition debut [of the GT3 car] even if we hope to see it in 2015.

“The Super Trofeo version will run next year in the championships even though the Gallardo can continue to compete.”

The Lamborghini Huracan LP 610-4 is 10 percent lighter than its predecessor, but still equipped with a sizable 5.2-liter V10 engine that produces 610 hp.

“We want to maintain the performance for our customers,” Sanna said. “There has been much work done to the sound of the Huracan LP610-4. On the Nardo track, the car is two seconds faster than the Gallardo. Everything has been designed for the driver.”

Lamborghini, like the majority of the GT manufacturers, are anxiously waiting the outcome of the GT convergence talks, which has been proposed to debut by as early as 2016.

“We are part of the working group with the FIA,” Sanna said. “Many of our customers are interested in going to Le Mans but for that we’ll have to wait and see the outcome of the new regulations.

“For us, nothing is defined because we have to go step by step. Currently, Squadra Corse only works with customers. But that could change in the future through direct involvement from Lamborghini.”

Sanna also wouldn’t rule out a Lamborghini prototype in the future. “You never say never,” he said with a smile. “Why not in the future? But for the moment, we’re already busy enough.”
