Podium-Contending Glickenhaus Hits Trouble in the Night

The formerly second-placed Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus SCG003C has fallen outside the top 10 of the Nürburgring 24 after being wheeled into its garage for repairs.

Thomas Mutsch had only completed two laps of the car’s ninth stint when he was called back into the SCG box for the team to solve an apparent problem with the left-front headlight following contact.

The Glickenhaus that Mutsch is sharing with Felipe Fernandez-Laser, Andreas Simonsen and Franck Mailleux had been one of the main podium contenders during the first half of the race, after working its way up from 19th on the starting grid.

Mailleux set the fastest lap of the race in the fourth hour before Fernandez-Laser moved up from fifth to third by getting past Matt Campbell in the No. 31 Frikadelli Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R and Christian Hohenadel in the No. 48 Mann Filter Mercedes-AMG GT3 in Hour 7.

Campbell was forced to take evasive action around an on-track safety vehicle, which nearly put the Frikadelli car into the barrier, and enabled the Glickenhaus to get past.

Fernandez-Laser took Hohenadel on the pit straight a few moments later, and despite the cars switching back in a pit sequence, Mailleux re-overtook Maxi Goetz in Hour 8 to put the SPX-class car in second position overall.

Simonsen then had a thrilling battle with Gotz and Mathieu Jaminet in the 10th hour before handing over to Mutsch just before the issue took hold.

The German driver returned to the track in 20th place after around 16 minutes of repairs that bumped the SCG off the lead lap.

Up at the front, the No. 911 Manthey Racing Porsche continues to hold a lead in excess of two minutes over the Frikadelli Porsche that is now in second, with Jaminet driving.

The Frenchman is 18 seconds ahead of Raffaele Marciello in the Mann Filter Mercedes, while Christopher Haase is a further 1-minute 30s back in the No. 14 Car Collection Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo.

The second Manthey Racing Porsche, which arrived as the defending race winner, has been retired from the race after Richard Lietz spun on the Nordschleife.

It had already been set back early on in the race by a puncture on Saturday afternoon.
