Race Start Delayed Due to Barrier Repairs From Super Trofeo Crash

The start of the Total 24 Hours of Spa has been delayed by half an hour to 4 p.m. local time due to barrier repairs following an accident in a Lamborghini Super Trofeo race.

The second 50-minute race of this weekend’s Super Trofeo round was brought to an early halt with 15 minutes remaining after an accident involving the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVOs of Raul Guzman, Jonathan Cecotto and Kevin Gilardoni.

Following a restart from a safety car period, the three drivers went side-by-side on the run out of La Source before tangling.

The contact resulted in Cecotto’s car, which was on the right, spearing across the front of points leader Gilardoni in the middle and Guzman on the left-hand side.

Guzman was taken to the medical center and then to hospital for treatment to a suspected leg injury, according to a Lamborghini spokesperson, while Cecotto and Gilardoni both walked away from the incident.

Repairs to the damaged barrier have resulted in a slight delay to the start of the 24 Hours, which is now due to begin at 4 p.m. CEST and finish at 3 p.m. CET tomorrow.

Additionally, the GT3 grid will now form up on the ‘Formula One’ pit straight before La Source, rather than the ‘endurance’ pit straight where the crash occurred.

The race will still be started from the endurance straight, with Eau Rouge as the first turn.
