Trouble has struck two Lamborghinis, almost simultaneously — in separate incidents — with less than seven hours remaining in the Hankook 24 Hours of Dubai.
The second-placed No. 26 Konrad Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan GT3 of Fabio Babini ran out of fuel just short of the pit-in, which saw the factory driver climb out and push the car to the pit lane.
Moments later, Mikhail Spiridonov slammed his No. 12 Leipert Motorsport Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo into the barriers in Turn 14, with fire and smoke billowing out of the A6-Am class entry.
The accident put the race under the 12th Code 60 of the race, with Spiridonov climbing from the destroyed Lamborghini apparently uninjured.
The No. 19 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT Audi R8 LMS of Laurens Vanthoor now leads the race, three laps ahead of Connor De Phillippi’s Land Audi, which led through the night but lost five laps in the early morning hours after also running out of fuel.
Konrad’s Lamborghini has dropped to fifth overall, behind the lone-remaining No. 16 Black Falcon Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 and No. 27 SPS Automotive Mercedes in third and fourth, respectively.
