La Filiere Frederic Sausset made its race debut in the VdeV Series race at Circuit Paul Ricard on Sunday with a trio of disabled racers.

The program, run by 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans Garage 56 entrant Sausset, was announced at Le Mans last year.

It aims to provide a platform for disabled racing drivers under the banner “Un Volant Pour Tous” (a steering wheel for all), with the goal of running in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2020.

Takuma Aoki, Snoussi Ben Moussa and Nigel Bailly co-drove a Ligier JS P3 Nissan in the LMP3 category of the VdeV race at Paul Ricard and will complete the rest of the season.

Aoki has been paraplegic since a motorcycle accident 20 years ago, Ben Moussa is a left-hand amputee, and Bailly has been paraplegic since a motocross incident in 2004.

“It was vital that we have a team representing many continents, nationalities, and handicaps,” Sausset said. “We’ve managed to achieve that with these talented and very promising drivers.”

The trio was the first ever handicapped team to compete in an FIA closed prototype.

The team plans to enter either the Michelin Le Mans Cup or European Le Mans Series in 2019 ahead of a Le Mans entry in 2020.
