Alegra Motorsports has confirmed its switch to Pirelli World Challenge, having named Porsche factory ace Michael Christensen as its full season driver.

Christensen will be joined in the team’s Porsche 911 GT3 R by Spencer Pumpelly for the SprintX races.

As revealed by Sportscar365 last month, the Florida-based team has been preparing a single-car PWC program, following a full season in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Christensen, who was part of the team’s class-winning lineup in last year’s Rolex 24 at Daytona, will spearhead its new PWC effort, combining his full-season duties in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

Pumpelly, meanwhile, makes the switch from Magnus Racing, which has returned to the WeatherTech Championship.

“We had an outstanding season last year and are looking to build on that success,” said team principal Carlos de Quesada.

“We’re thrilled to have Michael back in the driver’s seat, and with Spencer on the roster we’re solid.”

Porsche’s two leading U.S.-based GT3 customer teams have swapped series, with 2017 PWC champions Wright Motorsports moving to GT Daytona with Patrick Long and reigning class champion Christina Nielsen.
