Lawson Aschenbach held off a hard-charging Ian James to complete a sweep of the Pirelli World Challenge GTS Sprint weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

The pole-sitting No. 1 Blackdog Speed Shop Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R of Aschenbach edged out James’ No. 50 Panoz Avezzano GT4 by a mere 0.145 seconds at the line, following a final ten-minute shootout in the 50-minute race.

After a clean-sailing run for the defending class champion on Saturday, it was a nose-to-tail battle between Aschenbach and James in the closing stages, although Aschenbach held on.

It marked Aschenbach’s fourth consecutive GTS Sprint win in as many races this year.

The No. 74 Robinson Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Gar Robinson finished third, holding off an equally strong Jade Buford in the No. 55 PF Racing Ford Mustang GT4 for his first podium in PWC competition.

James Sofronas, meanwhile, completed the top-five in the No. 14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT4.

Staveley Picks up GTSA Honors

Drew Staveley claimed the win in GTSA following a heavy accident by class contender Mark Klenin.

Klenin’s No. 62 KPR McLaren 570S GT4 clouded the Turn 3 barriers, while running second in class, with 23 minutes to go, resulting in a safety car period.

Once racing resumed, Staveley managed to muscle his No. 12 Ian Lacy Racing Ginetta G55 GT4 around Jeff Courtney’s class-leading No. 99 JCR Maserati GT4 for the position and eventual win.

Courtney came home second, with teammate Fred Roberts completing the class podium in third.

RESULTS: Race 2
