TRG-AMR will return to the GT ranks of the Pirelli World Challenge this weekend at Sonoma Raceway, with rising star Christina Nielsen set to make her series debut behind the wheel of the team’s Aston Martin Vantage GT3.

The Porsche Cup standout will take the place of team principal Kevin Buckler in the No. 00 entry, after impressing in a test on the 2.3-mile California circuit last week.

“I tested with her [and James Davison] and we were all really close,” Buckler told Sportscar365. “When we finished the test, there was no way I was going to say no to her driving the car [this weekend].

“It’s great that Christina was so fast and very, very motivated. We’re looking forward to helping her get noticed in a world-class field of drivers and see how she does.”

Christina, daughter of endurance racer Lars-Erik Nielsen, has quickly made a name for herself in the sports car racing world, competing in this year’s Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge with NGT Motorsport, which also saw select outings in the team’s Porsche 911 GT America in the TUDOR Championship.

She also took part in the most recent round of the European Le Mans Series at the Red Bull Ring with former Le Mans class-winning squad IMSA Performance Matmut with its GTE-class Porsche 911 GT3 RSR.

While her 2015 program has yet to be decided, Buckler sees a bright future for her in World Challenge competition.

“With Christina, I couldn’t imagine a better place for her to be [in 2014],” he said. “For her to take the most efficient way of getting publicity for herself, Pirelli World Challenge is the way to go. She’s very, very talented.”

In addition to the GT class entry, TRG is also fielding five Aston Martin Vantage GT4s in the GTS category this weekend in the team’s home race.
