James Storms to GTS Race 1 Pole at Sonoma

Ian James earned a dominant pole position for Pirelli World Challenge GTS Race 1 at Sonoma Raceway and set a new track record in the process.

The Team Panoz Racing driver turned in a lap of 1:39.951 in the No. 50 Panoz Avezzano GT, a full 0.439 seconds faster than second place Martin Barkey in the No. 80 Mantella Autosport KTM Xbow GT4.

James was the only driver to drop into the 1:39 range, and the first PWC GTS competitor ever to achieve the feat.

Rodrigo Baptista will start third for Flying Lizard Motorsports in his No. 3 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR, with series champion-elect Lawson Aschenbach to his outside in the No. 10 Blackdog Speedshop Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R.

Derek DeBoer grabbed pole in the GTSA category driving the No. 007 Aston Martin Vantage GT4 for TRG-AMR and will start sixth overall.

GTS Race 1 will be at 5 p.m. PT tonight with live coverage available at World-Challenge.com.
