R. Ferri Motorsports will make its return to the GT class in Pirelli World Challenge, with Kyle Marcelli confirmed in the team’s Ferrari 488 GT3 for the this weekend’s Sprint round at Mid-Ohio.

Marcelli, who teamed with Alex Riberas in the first two SprintX events of the season, replaces the Spaniard in the No. 61 Ferrari, returns for the first time since Riberas’ weekend-ending accident at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in May.

It’s unclear if Marcelli, or the Remo Ferri-owned team, will complete the remainder of the PWC season, which includes two more SprintX rounds, as well as the Sprint season finale at Sonoma in September.

Other changes to the entry list for Mid-Ohio include the absence of both Absolute Racing Bentley Continental GT3s.

Adderly Fong, who is coming off his first career PWC win at Road America, was due to miss the race because of his commitments in the China GT Championship, although the team has yet to comment on the reason for its withdrawal.

A total of 24 cars spread across the GT/GTA/GT Cup classes are currently listed, along with 18 GTS cars that will, as usual, run in separate 50-minute races.

Official track action gets underway on Friday.
