Mike Skeen will start today’s Mid-Ohio Sports Car Challenge from the pole, following a late flyer in qualifying for the 11th round of the Pirelli World Challenge season.

Skeen took his No. 2 CRP Racing Audi R8 LMS ultra to a 1:20.725 lap with less than three minutes remaining in 20-minute session, denying K-PAX Racing a sweep of the front row.

It marked Skeen’s third pole of the year as he searches for his third victory of the season later today.

Alex Figge qualified the No. 9 K-PAX Racing McLaren MP4-12C GT3 second with a 1:20.884 lap time, ahead of teammate Robert Thorne, who was just 0.016 seconds slower in third.

The No. 31 EFFORT Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R of Ryan Dalziel, making his return to World Challenge competition, was fourth, while late a late improvement for the No. 61 R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 saw Anthony Lazzaro end up fifth overall and in the GT class.

Albert von Thun und Taxis, meanwhile, was quickest of the GT-A contenders, putting his Reiter Engineering Lamborghini Gallardo FL2 11th overall on the grid.

In GTS, Lawson Aschenbach scored his first pole of the season.

The defending class champion reeled off a best lap of 1:27.557 in his No. 1 Blackdog Racing Camaro, outpacing the No. 20 BestIT Racing Camaro of Andy Lee by 0.615 seconds.

The No. 36 Kia Racing/Kinetic Motorsports Kia Optima of Nic Jonsson was third in class.

The GTS session was interrupted twice, first for an incident between the No. 62 Automatic Racing Aston Martin of Mark Klenin and BJ Zacharias’ Doran Racing Nissan 370Z in Turn 12.

The session was red-flagged for a second and final time just after the restart for oil on the circuit.
