Alessandro Pier Guidi set the fastest lap time in Free Practice at Monza as the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup season got underway on Saturday morning.

The Italian driver posted a best time of 1:48.667 early in the 90-minute session to put his Kessel Racing Ferrari 488 GT3 on top.

He shares the car with Michael Broniszewski, running in the Pro-Am Cup, and the Polish driver completed most of the session after Pier Guidi’s early run.

Little changed in the top five positions for most of the session after the fastest times had been set early on.

Maro Engel was the second quickest driver with the Black Falcon pilot posting a time just 0.098 seconds down on Pier Guidi in the No. 4 Mercedes-AMG GT3.

Dominik Schwaeger classified third  in his Pro-Am-entered Rinaldi Racing Ferrari while Markus Winkelhock put the No. 26 Sainteloc Racing Audi R8 LMS GT3 into fourth.

Marvin Kirchhoefer was fifth in one of the R-Motorsport Aston Martin Vantage GT3s, meanwhile.

While Pier Guidi led the way in Pro-Am, Mikael Grenier posted the fastest Silver Cup time in his Emil Frey G3 Jaguar.

Rinaldi topped the Am Cup with its No. 488 Ferrari driven by Pierre Ehret, Rory Penttinen and Rick Yoon.

The session was relatively incident-free until a red flag was called with 15 minutes to go in order to collect the No. 25 Sainteloc Audi.

Antonie Jung went into the gravel on the exit of the second chicane, causing the disruption, and the session got back underway with 10 minutes remaining.

The session ended less than a minute earlier than scheduled as Lenny Marioneck was slow on track in the Reiter Young Stars Lamborghini Huracan R-EX, bringing out the red flag again.

Pre-Qualifying will take place at 5 p.m. local time and will be streamed live on the series’ website and GT World YouTube channel.
