Brabham Automotive is set to join the GT2 formula with its BT63 Concept, which is undergoing evaluations for a 2022 homologation from SRO Motorsports Group.

A Brabham BT63 GT2 Concept will enter this year’s Fanatec GT2 European Series finale at Paul Ricard in early October as an invitational entry, ahead of its homologation.

The 600 hp vehicle uses the same platform as the Brabham BT62R road-legal version of the BT62 hypercar, which has competed in British domestic championships.

It weighs between 1250-1300 kg, while Brabham has set a price tag of €400,000 ($475,000 US).

Brabham joins Porsche, Audi, KTM and Lamborghini in developing a car for the GT2 formula which was first announced by SRO in 2018 as a level between GT3 and GT4.

The first multi-manufacturer series for the amateur-driver-based category started this year in Europe, where the four registered constructors are currently represented.

Porsche, Audi and KTM built new cars to the GT2 rulebook, while the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO was made eligible through extra weight and an air restrictor.

Lamborghini is also expected to seek GT2 approval for its recently-announced Super Trofeo EVO2 model, which makes its global customer racing debut in 2022.

“We are delighted that Brabham Automotive will be making its debut in the Fanatec GT2 European Series in October this year,” said SRO founder and CEO Stephane Ratel.

“I would personally like to welcome back David Brabham to an SRO promoted series, especially with the superb Brabham BT63 GT2 Concept, a car bearing his name.

“The BT63 GT2 will be a great addition to the SRO GT2 category, and will contribute to the continued growth and success of the series.”

Brabham Automotive sporting director David Brabham, a 2009 Le Mans winner with Peugeot, will head to Paul Ricard to oversee the BT63 GT2 Concept’s race debut with an unannounced driver lineup.

“Following on from the success of our customer racing program in the UK with the competition-spec BT62 in GT Cup, Brabham Automotive is excited that SRO has extended an invitation for Brabham Automotive to race in the Fanatec GT2 European Series,” he said.

“Having personally competed in SRO series in the past, I very much look forward to seeing a Brabham on track in this series.”
