Aschenbach Tops GTS on Friday

Lawson Aschenbach led the way in the opening day of Pirelli World Challenge GTS Sprint action at Watkins Glen, taking his No. 1 Blackdog Speed Shop Chevrolet Camaro GT4.R to the top of the time charts in Friday’s second practice session.

Aschenbach narrowly edged Patrick Gallagher’s No. 10 PF Racing Ford Mustang GT4 by 0.044 seconds, while Gallagher’s teammate Jade Buford was third in the No. 55 Mustang.

Championship leader James Sofronas was fourth in the No. 14 GMG Racing Audi R8 LMS GT4, while Ian James notched the fifth quickest time in the No. 50 Panoz Avezzano GT4.

Drivers in the top seven in the second session all made improvements from the morning, including Jeff Courtney, who was quickest of the GTSA competitors in sixth overall.

Both of Friday’s sessions ran without major incidents.

Qualifying is scheduled for 10:50 a.m. EDT on Saturday.
