Calvert Dynamics will expand into a two-car Pirelli World Challenge SprintX operation in this weekend’s season-ending round at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, in fielding a Ford Mustang Boss 302R alongside its GT class Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Andrew Aquilante and Kurt Rezzetano, race winners in GTS competition last year, will pilot the Mustang in the pair of 60-minute races to cap off the 2016 season. Aquilante is also entered for the GTS Sprint races in the car.

Aquilante and Rezzetano have most recently been serving as team chief and GT car crew chief, respectively, in the team’s PWC Porsche programs.

“Kurt and Andrew have experience in endurance racing with the Mustang Boss 302 in IMSA Continental series GS racing from 2013 and 2014, and we look forward to seeing them in the SprintX format driving together again,” team principal Preston Calvert said.

Both drivers will make their first PWC GTS starts of the season, with Rezzetano coming off his second consecutive SCCA T2 National Championship last month.

“It is such a last minute decision without any test-time ahead of the event that we will just have to see how things shake out during the first official practice session,” Aquilante said.

“A lot has changed in GTS since last year both in cars and drivers, so it is hard to predict. All we can do is take a guess based on the results from last year to this year of cars and drivers that are the same.”

Calvert Dynamics is coming off a sweep of the SprintX weekend with Calvert and Michael Lewis in the Porsche, with the same lineup having been retained for Monterey.

Lewis will also take part in the 50-minute Sprint season finale on Sunday in the No. 98 Porsche.
