Dontje, Dalziel Claim Road America Poles

Winward Racing, DXDT Racing take poles for pair of GT World Challenge America races…

Indy Dontje and Ryan Dalziel have scored pole positions for this weekend’s GT World Challenge America powered by AWS rounds at Road America.

Dontje will start this afternoon’s race from the top spot, having taken his No. 33 Winward Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 to a best lap of 2:06.996.

It was 0.494 seconds faster than the No. 93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 Evo of Shelby Blackstock, who was second overall and in class.

Martin Fuentes claimed GT3 Pro-Am class pole in his No. 1 Squadra Corse Ferrari 488 GT3, which topped the time charts on Friday.

The championship-leading No. 04 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of George Kurtz qualified fourth overall and second in class, despite suffering a spin in the session.

Fred Poordad (Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R) and David Askew (DXDT Mercedes Evo) completed the six-car GTWC field competing this weekend.

First Pole of Season for Dalziel

Dalziel, meanwhile, will start Sunday’s race from pole, thanks to a 2:04.882 in his No. 63 DXDT Racing Mercedes Evo.

The Florida-based Scot edged out the No. 93 Racers Edge Acura of Trent Hindman by 0.062 seconds.

Colin Braun qualified third in his CrowdStrike-sponsored Mercedes, making it two DXDT Mercedes in the top-three, followed by the No. 20 Wright Porsche of Max Root.

Root and Poordad’s Porsche has been reclassified back to the GT3 Am class after initially set to graduate to Pro-Am this weekend.

The top five drivers were within four-tenths of each other in the highly competitive Q2 session.

The first 90-minute race of the weekend gets underway this afternoon at 1:45 p.m. CT with Race 2 set for Sunday at 1:15 p.m. CT.
