Memo Gidley will continue his road to returning to top-level competition this week as the Californian will take part in Thursday’s Pirelli World Challenge Promoter Test Day at Utah Motorsports Campus in a Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Gidley will join TKO Motorsports team owner Dave Traitel behind the wheel of the GT3-spec car, as the team dips its toes into the PWC paddock for the first time.

“I was very excited when I was told we were going to run the test day before the next PWC weekend,” Gidley said.

“It will be a great opportunity for me to be back at a race weekend to see a lot of friends and to run with all the top PWC series cars and drivers, even if just for practice right now.”

Gidley and Traitel have been racking up the miles on the Porsche in recent weeks, with the pairing completing a test day at Sonoma Raceway last weekend.

While the team has no current plans to enter a race, Traitel is hopeful of confirming a program, with Gidley, in the future.

“We have been very pleased with the results from our extensive testing schedule with our Porsche GT3 R,” Traitel said.

“It has allowed us to gain even more confidence with our evolving motorsports program, and we look forward to what the future will bring. I can definitely say we are headed in the direction of competition and hope to keep Memo with us for the ride.”

Gidley, meanwhile, said he’s excited to return to the PWC paddock, even just for a day.

“I would love an opportunity to get back into a PWC race,” he said. “I raced the Air Force Reserve/TechSport Ford Focus for a year in World Challenge over a decade ago, and our team got the Ford Focus its first podium in the series!

“The series was intense and very competitive like it appears right now, and it would be great to get TKO racing in this environment.”
