GMG Racing will return to full-time GT3 competition, having confirmed a Porsche 911 GT3 R entry for James Sofronas and Brent Holden in Blancpain GT World Challenge America.

Sofronas, the reigning Pirelli GT4 America champion, is set to return to the top class of SRO Motorsports America with the German manufacturer’s new-for-2019 challenger.

It’s expected the duo will race for either Pro-Am or Am class honors.

The California-based team recently took delivery of the car, ahead of its Blancpain GT debut in next month’s season-opener at Circuit of The Americas in March.

“I’m really look forward to re-teaming with Brent Holden and returning to GT3 competition with the all-new Porsche 911 GT3 R,” Sofronas said.

“It’s a new look for the series, but it’s an honor to know that our team is as strong as ever, featuring the same core group of personnel that have played such a large part of our heritage.”

Longtime GMG driver Holden, meanwhile, steps up for a full-season campaign.

“I was attracted to the new, Porsche 911 GT3 R due to its versatility over a multi-year period as well as a chance to renew my relationship with GMG, and good friend James, where I started my racing experiences,” Holden said.

“From our first test we could tell that the car was a vast improvement from the prior edition, it’s more approachable for an Am driver to test the limits and more accessible for crews to dial in setup.”

Bell Set for GT4 Return With Audi R8 LMS GT4

GMG will continue fielding Audi R8 LMS GT4 cars in GT4 America, with Jason Bell set for a Sprint season campaign and CJ Moses confirmed in a four-race campaign.

Bell will also contest the GT4 America SprintX season-opener at Circuit of The Americas, with a to-be-confirmed co-driver.

“After our 2018 we’ve learned a lot and made progress, moving forward our target is very high,” he said.

As announced earlier today, Moses will take part in the GT4 America Sprint races at St. Pete, Long Beach, Virginia International Raceway and Watkins Glen International.

“It’s an exciting new era for the series, and we’re thrilled to be a part of it,” Sofronas added.

“We have three very different programs in store, all with the same dedication to performance and quality experience that we’re known for.”

Sofronas said additional programs within SRO America are currently under evaluation.
