The debut of GT Sports Club America will come in combined races with GT World Challenge America powered by AWS competitors, with the two series set to run simultaneously in this weekend’s return to racing for SRO America at Virginia International Raceway.

A total of 14 cars between the two series are due to take part, headlined by nine GT3 cars in GTWC America for its pair of 90-minute races.

While initially set to kick off as a standalone series, GTSC America, open to Bronze-rated drivers in GT2 and GT3-spec machinery utilizing a single-driver sprint format, will run alongside GTWC America entries for the first 40 minutes of each race.

Five cars are entered at VIR, including several new Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport models.

SRO America has followed a similar path to SRO Motorsport Group’s European championships in merging the two series due to a drop in expected entries amid the coronavirus pandemic.

It was announced last month that GTSC Europe would be absorbed into GTWC Europe Sprint, although those teams will run the full 60-minute duration of the main race and have the option of utilizing two-driver lineups.

A SRO America spokesperson confirmed to Sportscar365 that additional combined GTWC and GTSC races will be dependent on grid size and circuit for the remainder of the season.

The nine-car entry for GTWC America at VIR is down from the 13 entries that took part in March’s season-opener at Circuit of The Americas.

Among the absences include Vital Speed Motorsports, Stephen Cameron Racing and GMG Racing’s Porsche 911 GT3 R, although the team has two GT2-spec Porsches entered in GTSC America this weekend.

Racers Edge Motorsports will have both of its Acura NSX GT3 Evos on the grid, including the No. 93 car of Trent Hindman and Shelby Blackstock, which swept the weekend at COTA.

The two-car DXDT Racing effort will again be joined by Winward Racing as representing defending global GTWC manufacturers’ champion Mercedes-AMG, while TR3 Racing will have a pair of Ferrari 488 GT3s, one, as usual, under the Squadra Corse Banner.

Single-car entries from Wright Motorsports (Porsche) and K-PAX Racing (Bentley Continental GT3) complete the field.

An optional test day kicks off action at VIR on Wednesday, with further testing and practice on tap on Thursday and Friday for GTWC and GTSC competitors.

Race 1 is set to get underway at 1:45 p.m. ET on Saturday, with the second round taking place at the same time on Sunday.
