The addition of a third Am class entry has boosted the Fanatec GT World Challenge America powered by AWS grid to 16 cars for this weekend’s penultimate round of the season at Sebring International Raceway.
Ferrari Challenge North America entrants Triarsi Competizione will field a Ferrari 488 GT3 for series newcomers Charlie Scardina and Onofrio Triarsi.
The Bronze-rated pairing join full-season competitors AF Corse with its No. 51 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 of Jean‐Claude Saada and Conrad Grunewald as well as TR3 Racing’s No. 10 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo, which debuted at Road America with drivers Bill Sweedler and John Megrue.
As expected, the No. 04 DXDT Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo of George Kurtz and Colin Braun is absent for the second consecutive weekend, although is expected to return for next month’s Indianapolis 8 Hour.
Inception Racing, which is again listed on the entry list, is also not expected to make the trip to Florida to instead prioritize the upcoming U.S. leg of the Intercontinental GT Challenge powered by Pirelli.
Other changes since the last round at Watkins Glen International include the return of Dakota Dickerson to the No. 93 Racers Edge Motorsports Acura NSX GT3 Evo as well as Rodrigo Sales, who is back in the No. 77 Compass Racing Acura after several races away due to his European Le Mans Series commitments.
Both teams are coming off class victories in the most recent round at Watkins Glen International.
K-PAX Racing’s Jordan Pepper and Andrea Caldarelli will be looking to clinch the Pro class title this weekend ahead of the Indy 8 Hour, which would allow the Italian to drive for his FFF Racing Team in the joint GTWC America/IGTC round.
Pepper and Caldarelli currently hold a 63-point lead over Turner Motorsport’s Robby Foley and Michael Dinan in second.
A maximum of 100 points still remain up for grabs when factoring in the Indy finale, which will award double points at the three-hour mark of the race.
Pro-Am sees the Wright Motorsports pairing of Jan Heylen and Fred Poordad with a 58-point lead over Taylor Hagler, meaning the Heylen and Poordad could also theoretically lock up the championship this weekend.
SRO America returns to Sebring for the first time since 2009 when it was run in what was known as SPEED World Challenge competition.
As a result, series officials have organized a pair of test sessions on Thursday for competitors to re-acclimate or come to grips with the historic 3.7-mile airfield circuit.
In addition to GTWC America, Pirelli GT4 America and TC America powered by Skip Barber Racing School will also have points-paying rounds, with GT America powered by AWS serving as an invitational, non-points event.
Sebring serves as the replacement round for the canceled event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, which was due to not feature GT America competitors.
