Porsche factory driver Dirk Werner will team up with James Sofronas in GMG Racing’s return to the GT3 ranks in this weekend’s Blancpain GT World Challenge America round at Sonoma Raceway.

Werner and team owner/driver Sofronas will compete in the Pro-Am class with the Porsche 911 GT3 R Sofronas debuted in the season-opening round at Circuit of The Americas in March.

It will mark Werner’s debut with the California-based team.

“The team has a long history in American GT racing and with Porsche, and I’m hoping to add to their heritage,” Werner said.

“James Sofronas has had some great results for several decades so I’m sure we’ll make a good pairing, and we hope for a competitive weekend.”

Sofronas added: “Dirk has a long resume of success that should add valuable information to the team, and his presence only further solidifies our long-standing relationship with Porsche Motorsport.”

GMG will also field a Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport for Jason Bell in Pirelli GT4 America Sprint, with Sofronas and Bell set to share an Audi R8 LMS GT4 with Sofronas in GT4 SprintX competition this weekend.
