Maxime Martin was the fastest driver in the night qualifying session at Spa-Francorchamps, although not getting even close to the fastest times set in the first qualifying session.

The BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS BMW Z4 GT3’s fastest time of 2:20.606 was 1.5 seconds slower than the fastest time set by teammate Dirk Werner in the No. 77 BMW Z4 GT3, who will be the last one out in tomorrow’s Super Pole session.

“It’s difficult to go into a championship where you don’t know the tire very well. During this week we made quite a few changes to the car and, at least one lap now, we figured out a pretty good setup to go real quick,” said Werner.

Steven Kane finished the night session in second place, the Bentley driver put in the No. 7 Continental GT3’s fastest time in the final minutes of the session, pushing the ISR Audi R8 LMS ultra of Marc Basseng, Filip Salaquarda and Fabian Hamprecht down to third. Both cars were over eight tenths slower than Martin’s fastest time.

None of the cars outside the top 20 after the first qualifying session was able to improve during the night qualifying session. As a result the No. 63 Black Falcon Mercedes, No. 75 ISR Audi, No. 44 Oman Racing Team Aston Martin and No. 8 Bentley will not be taking part in the Super Pole session.

Super Pole will commence at 6.50pm local time tomorrow evening, with the Von Ryan Racing McLaren MP4-12C GT3 the first one and the BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS BMW Z4 GT3 the last one out on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
