Hexis Racing Ceases Operations

After 12 years of competing in various championships, Hexis Racing will cease its activities, as a suitable investor could not be found in time for the team to continue in a competitive way.

In mid-October, the French team announced that the Hexis Group was going to withdraw its financial support at the end of the year, which left only two months for team boss Philippe Dumas to find a solution.

Despite talking with various parties and McLaren offering some help by out by looking out for a potential program and/or sponsor(s), it proved to be impossible to put together the right package in time.

After an impressive final showing at the Baku World Challenge, where the team managed to fight back to a podium position after an early puncture, Dumas was already looking at the situation in a rather rational way.

“Maybe it’s better to stop now and keep the good memories, rather than just trying to survive for the sake of it. We want to do things the right way and if that’s not possible it might be better to stop altogether,” he told Sportscar365.

There was, however, at least one potential investor that maybe would have made it possible for Hexis Racing to survive, but not at a level the team was willing to continue.

With the curtain falling on Hexis Racing, the European GT scene loses one of its bigger names.

The team set up by Michel Mateu won the teams’ title in the FIA GT3 European Championship and the FIA GT1 World Championship with Aston Martin, and subsequently helped to develop the new McLaren GT3 racer, claiming the runner-up spot in the final year of the World Championship.
