SRO Motorsports Group today announced the Russian round of the Blancpain Sprint Series will be moved to Moscow Raceway.

The event was set to take place on a street circuit at the site of the Moscow State University, but construction work will commence immediately, making it impossible for the race to happen.

With just three weeks remaining until the start of the event, the organizers were unable to obtain the required authorizations to construct a street circuit in a different location near Moscow.

To keep the Russian round on the 2015 calendar the decision was made to move the race to the Moscow Raceway and make it a two-day event (Friday and Saturday).

Moscow Raceway hosted a round of the FIA GT1 World Championship and the FIA GT3 European Championship in 2012.

Current Blancpain Sprint Series points leader Laurens Vanthoor, driving with Stéphane Ortelli, won the qualifying race of the FIA GT1 round, while Bentley driver Maximilian Buhk won one GT3 round with Mercedes.
