René Rast’s No. 2 Belgian Audi Club Team WRT clocked the fastest time in the second Free Practice session for the Zandvoort Blancpain Sprint Series round.

It was near the end of the 80-minute session that the German put a 1:39.046 on the timing screens, almost four-tenths quicker than Jeroen Bleekemolen’s time from this morning.

Dominik Baumann confirmed Team Schubert’s pace, as he came in second (+0.136s) with the No. 76 BMW Z4 GT3, only 0.081s in front of the No. 28 Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini of local hero Bleekemolen.

The No. 1 and No. 3 WRT and G-Drive Racing Audis completed the top five, while series newcomer Alessandro Balzan drove his No. 90 Scuderia Villorba Corse to a competitive P6 (+0.441s).

Both HTP Motorsport Mercedes’ ended up near the bottom end of the top ten in eighth and ninth, but the drivers remained hopeful they could challenge for the podium positions.

While times were wide apart in FP1, the afternoon practice was a lot more competitive with a total of 11 cars within the same second of the pacesetter.

The session was interrupted once, as Jaap Van Lagen’s Herberth Motorsport Porsche stranded on track after losing its right rear wheel.

The car sustained minor damage to its suspension but will be ready for tomorrow’s Qualifying at 9 a.m. local time.
