2016 Blancpain GT Sprint Cup champion Enzo Ide has come out of a medically-induced coma and offered thanks to those who supported him during his illness.

Ide, 28, was placed in a coma after suffering internal bleeding from a head injury sustained at his home last August.

The Belgian racer, who won SRO’s top European GT3 sprint honor in a WRT Audi R8 LMS GT3, shared an update on his progress in a New Year’s Day social media post.

“Thank you to my wife, my lady, my everything, who supported me 24/7, day and night, week by week, month per month,” said Ide.

“Without her, it wouldn’t have been possible to fight back during [the] 142 days.

“The doctors, intensive care nurses, nurses [and] all services which were needed during my stays in the hospital, recovery doctors and nurses, teachers… thank you to all of you for watching after mee and taking me back again.

“Thank you to the doctors for their unbelievable work. I still can’t believe how they were able to manage the surgeries. I don’t know how to thank everyone. You are one group of unbelievable people.”

Ide added that he would strive to “be stronger than ever” in 2020.

Since winning the 2016 Sprint Cup title, Ide has gone on to make sporadic appearances in GT racing and has also taken part in some FIA World Rallycross events.
