Daniel Juncadella secured pole position for the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup round at Silverstone on Sunday morning in his No. 88 AKKA ASP Mercedes-AMG GT3.

The Spaniard set a lap time of 1:59.072 in the third and final session, beating championship leader Mirko Bortolotti by 0.225 seconds.

Juncadella shares the AKKA ASP car with Tristan Vautier and Felix Serralles.

“It’s great and I didn’t expect it when I arrived here this weekend,” Juncadella told Sportscar365. “I woke up this morning wanting to get pole after a good Pre-Qualifying yesterday.

“I’m really happy and I really want to thank my team because they gave me a great car.”

Bortolotti set provisional pole earlier in Q3, but a red flag late in the session prevented the Grasser Racing Team driver from setting any more fast laps in the No. 63 Lamborghini Huracan GT3.

Q2 was also red-flagged for several minutes to collect Dries Vanthoor, whose Audi had gone into the gravel at Copse. That time, the session got back underway, however.

While Maxi Buhk had set the fastest time in the second session, Franck Perera was only able to hold on to third in the No. 84 Mercedes-AMG Team HTP Motorsport entry.

Davide Rigon completed the top four in his No. 72 SMP Racing-entered Ferrari 488 GT3, meanwhile.

Lap times fell consistently throughout the session, with the eventual pole time over one second clear of James Calado’s 2:00.322 in Pre-Qualifying yesterday afternoon.

The race will get underway at 2:55 p.m. BST, and will be streamed live on the series’ website and GT World YouTube channel.
