Leaders Tied Ahead of Nürburgring Sprint Cup Finale

Two driver pairings head to this weekend’s Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup finale tied at the top of the championship standings.

Belgian Audi Club Team WRT’s Alex Riberas and Christopher Mies and AKKA ASP drivers Raffaele Marciello and Michael Meadows all have 74 points at the top of the Sprint Cup points table.

A pair of 60-minute races at the Nürburgring will decide the Sprint Cup championship following the Hungaroring round two weekends ago.

Eleven drivers are in mathematical contention for the title, including defending champion Stuart Leonard although the Brit is 30.5 points off the leaders.

In addition to the points leaders, Mirko Bortolotti, Christian Engelhart, Kelvin van der Linde, Steijn Schothorst, Dries Vanthoor, Will Stevens and Leonard all have a chance of being crowned champion.

Twenty-one cars will take part in this weekend’s races, including an additional entry from Rinaldi Racing to be driven by Rinat Salikhov and David Perel in the Pro-Am Cup.

Black Falcon will return with its Mercedes-AMG GT3 for Hubert Haupt and Luca Stolz after the team made its first Sprint Cup appearance of the season in Hungary.

Kessel Racing’s Michael Broniszewski and Giacomo Piccini are again missing while Team Parker Racing has pulled its No. 31 Bentley Continental GT3. 

Kenny Habul isn’t returning after his one-off appearance at the Hungaroring with AKKA ASP, meanwhile. 

Adam Christodoulou will join Nico Jamin in the French team’s No. 87 Mercedes-AMG GT3 with the Brit making his series return after he was ruled out of the Total 24 Hours of Spa by an injury sustained in the previous weekend’s British GT Championship race.

Jamin shared with Denis Bulatov at the Hungaroring and Misano and Felix Serralles at Zolder and Brands Hatch earlier in the season.

Track action will get underway on Friday while there will be one race each on Saturday and Sunday.
