Alessio Picariello will join Phoenix Racing for the penultimate round of the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup at the Hungaroring.

The 22-year-old Belgian replaces Markus Pommer behind the wheel of the No. 5 Phoenix Racing Audi R8 LMS and will co-drive with Nicolaj Møller Madsen during his Blancpain GT debut.

Picariello, who won the 2013 ADAC Formel Masters, relaunched his career in Asia last year, competing full-time in the Audi R8 LMS Cup where he’s currently tied for the points lead with reigning champion Alex Yoong.

Møller Madsen currently sits second in the Silver Cup standings.

The number of entries for the Hungaroring Sprint Cup round was reduced to 35 cars, with the withdrawal of the third Attempto Racing Lamborghini Huracán GT3 that was set to be driven by Davide Valsecchi and Jack Falla.

Furthermore, Marco Mapelli replaces Jeroen Bleekemolen (on IMSA duty) alongside Stefan Rosina in the No. 16 GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini, while the No. 66 Rinaldi Racing-run Black Pearl Racing Ferrari 458 has shifted from the Pro-Am class to Am Cup after Steve Parrow was joined by fellow Bronze-graded driver Christian Hook.

Practice gets underway on Friday ahead of Saturday’s Qualifying Race and Sunday’s Main Race.
