Belgian Audi Club Team WRT has gone quickest in the opening Free Practice session for the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup round at Hungaroring, with Dries Vanthoor leading the majority of the session.

Vanthoor set an early flyer in his No. 5 Audi R8 LMS during the first 40 minutes of the session reserved for Bronze and Silver-rated drivers, while co-driver Fassler later took over the controls but was unable to improve on the car’s best lap time.

The Belgian driver posted a session-topping time of 1:44.086, while the top five cars were within nine-tenths of each other.

WRT swept the top two positions on the time sheets with the No. 1 car of Christopher Mies and Enzo Ide coming second, a mere 0.011 seconds off the pace.

Grasser Racing Team was the best of the rest with its No. 63 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 driven by Mirko Bortolotti and Christian Engelhart in third, while WRT also took fourth position.

Rinaldi Racing lead the Pro-Am ranks in fifth overall, while Martin Kodric and Lewis Williamson’s Strakka Racing McLaren 650S GT3 topped the Silver Cup field from sixth.

Free Practice 2 is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. local time.
