Flying Lizard Captures 100th Podium Finish

Flying Lizard Motorsports earned its 100th podium finish in program history following a successful season-opening Pirelli GT4 America weekend at Circuit of The Americas.

The California-based team, co-founded by Seth Neiman in 2003, has been a mainstay in professional sports car racing for more than 15 years, with multiple American Le Mans Series championships as well as victories in SRO America competition, where it primarily competes in today under the leadership team of Darren Law, Thomas Blam and Tommy Sadler that took over as owners in 2014.

Having entered the GT4 America weekend with 97 podiums, Michael Dinan earned three podium finishes in the team’s debuting Aston Martin Vantage GT4 cars, including his first career victory in GT4 Sprint Race 1 in the Am class.

Dinan teamed with co-driver Robby Foley for a second place overall finish in GT4 SprintX Race 2 on Sunday, while lost out on a sweep of the Sprint Am class to the No. 59 Rearden Racing Aston Martin of Paul Terry by just 0.053 seconds in the final race of the weekend in Austin.

The photo finish, however, still ensured Flying Lizard reaching the milestone.

“This year will be a big year for us as an organization, so to be able to start it off with our 100th podium is a special moment,” said program manager Law. “Michael Dinan has really improved as a driver over the last year, and he seems well suited for the Aston Martin.

“Robby Foley has proven to be an excellent co-driver for him as well, and the two make a complimentary pair.”

In addition to the GT4 Sprint and SprintX Aston entries, the team also debuted a McLaren 570S GT4 entry for Erin Vogel and McLaren Automotive factory driver Michael Cooper, which finished 6th and 10th in the Pro-Am class, respectively.

“Erin Vogel had great SprintX debut performance with her McLaren,” Law added. “If it weren’t for a little bit of bad luck, she and Michael Cooper would have possibly been on the podium with their teammates. I’m looking forward to the rest of their season.”
