Kozarov, Wittmer on GT4 SprintX Poles at Watkins Glen

Vesko Kozarov and Karl Wittmer have scored poles for this weekend’s Pirelli GT4 America SprintX races at Watkins Glen International.

In Qualifying 1, Kozarov took his No. 91 Rearden Racing Audi R8 LMS GT4 to a best lap of 1:54.343, outpacing James Sofronas in the No. 04 GMG Racing Audi by 1.185 seconds.

GT4 SprintX Am cars occupied the top two positions overall, with Charlie Bellaudro the best of SprintX Pro-Am entry, qualifying third in his previous-gen Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR entered by RS1.

Collin Mullan, meanwhile, was fourth in the No. 36 Andretti Autosport McLaren 570S GT4, followed by the GT4 East Pro-Am pole-siting Park Place Motorsports entry of Alan Brynjolfsson.

Trouble, meanwhile, hit the SprintX Pro-Am championship-leading NOLASPORT Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport, which came to a stop on track in Q1 and did not set a time in Q2.

Wittmer on Pole for Race 2

Wittmer held off Jan Heylen for the overall pole for Race 2 on Sunday, putting Ian Lacy Racing atop the running order.

The Canadian’s 1:54.330 in the GT4 East Pro-Am class Ford Mustang GT4 was 0.030 seconds quicker than Heylen, who topped the time sheets on Friday in the class in his GT4 SprintX Pro-Am entry.

Christian Szymczak in the No. 34 Murillo Racing Mercedes was third quickest overall and best of the GT4 East Am competitors.

Trent Hindman (Park Place Porsche) and Andrew Davis (GMG Porsche) completed the top-five.

Race 1 for GT4 SprintX/GT4 East gets underway at 5:50 p.m. ET.
