Shane Lewis reset the Pirelli World Challenge GTS track record en route to claiming pole for this afternoon’s SprintX round at Virginia International Raceway.

Lewis’ best lap of 1:53.396 in the No. 74 Robinson Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4 was over a second faster than the existing class record, set last year in race conditions by Nico Jamin in a KTM XBow GT4.

Reigning TCA champion Matt Fassnacht will start on the outside of the front row in the No. 34 Murillo Racing Mercedes GT4, followed by Moritz Kranz and Scott Maxwell for Muehlner Motorsports America and PF Racing, respectively.

It capped of a remarkable day of qualifying for Mercedes-AMG, which also swept the front row for the GT race.

Toby Grahovec was quickest of the GTS Am runners, qualifying on the class pole and sixth overall in the No. 92 Classic BMW M4 GT4.

Randy Fueller was the second fastest in class for Epic Motorsports, also in a BMW.

There were two red flags in the session for minor incidents.

GTS Race 1 is scheduled for 3:40 p.m. EDT with live streaming coverage available at World-Challenge.com.
