Palmer Sustains Head Injury in Lime Rock Accident

Andrew Palmer has sustained a head injury in this morning’s accident at Lime Rock Park, Bentley Motorsport confirmed late Saturday.

Palmer’s No. 87 Absolute Racing Bentley Continental GT3 made heavy contact with the Jorge De La Torre-driven No. 4 Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3, which was stationary in the Turn 1 runoff area.

The Bentley reportedly launched over the Aston Martin and came to rest in a wooded area, with rescue workers taking nearly 20 minutes to extract Palmer from the wreckage.

Palmer, along with De La Torre were transported by air to Hartford Hospital. The condition of De La Torre has not yet been released.

“Everyone at Bentley Motorsport is thinking of Andrew and we all send him our best wishes,” said Bentley Motorsport director Brian Gush.

“We are a close-knit community and we have team members at the hospital with him and his family. We will continue to offer our support to them at this difficult time.

“Our thanks go to the trackside team at Lime Rock Park and the medical professionals who have helped Andrew so far.”

Further details on Palmer’s condition have yet to be released, other than he is being “closely monitored after treatment by specialists.”

An official statement from PWC on the condition of both drivers is expected to follow later tonight.
