Alvaro Parente topped the time charts in opening practice for this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge Sprint round at Utah Motorsports Campus.

The K-PAX Racing driver reeled off a quick time of 1:48.321 in his No. 9 McLaren 650S GT3, edging out the No. 98 Calvert Dynamics Porsche 911 GT3 of Michael Lewis by 0.193 seconds.

Parente was the only driver to go quicker than Peter Kox’s 1:48.507 set in Thursday’s SprintX session in the Acura NSX GT3.

The all-new GT3 car also turned laps in Friday’s Sprint practice session but no official times were recorded.

The No. 3 Cadillac ATS-V.R of Michael Cooper was third quickest, with Jon Fogarty (GAINSCO McLaren) and Kyle Marcelli (CRP Audi R8 LMS ultra) completing the top-five in GT.

Frankie Montecalvo and Alec Udell led the way in GTA and GT Cup, respectively.

A second and final 30-minute practice session for Sprint competitors is on tap for 2:20 p.m local time.

RESULTS: Practice 1
