Andy Soucek led the way in opening practice for this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge SprintX round at Circuit of The Americas, in a rebound of fortunes for K-PAX Racing.

The Spaniard reeled off a quick lap of 2:06.463 in the No. 9 Bentley Continental GT3, outpacing the No. 80 Lone Star Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 by a considerable 0.586 seconds.

It marked a succesful turnaround for the California-based team, which spent the last two weeks building up a new Bentley chassis following Alvaro Parente’s heavy race-ending accident at St. Pete.

Soucek, a Bentley factory driver, is making his U.S. racing debut this weekend alongside Parente.

The No. 61 R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari 488 GT3 of Toni Vilander and Miguel Molina was third quickest, followed by the No. 31 TR3 Racing entry, featuring Jeff Segal, in fourth and quickest of the Pro-Am competitors.

Ryan Dalziel completed the top-five overall in the No. 19 TruSpeed Autosport Audi R8 LMS GT3.

The No. 07 Squadra Corse Garage Italia Ferrari, meanwhile, led the way in GT3-Am, with the No. 99 AM Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car of Alan Metni topping the GT Cup class.

The 40-minute session ran without any major incident, with the day’s second and final practice set for 4:05 p.m. CT.
