K-PAX Racing is set to continue in Pirelli World Challenge next year, potentially returning to a three-car operation, according to Program Manager Darren Law.

The California-based team, which finished runner-up in this year’s title fight with McLaren GT factory driver Alvaro Parente, however, could have a different look to it, with possible changes currently under evaluation.

“We’re planning to come back and are working on finalizing the details,” Law told Sportscar365. “We have not made a final decision on who that will be with but an announcement should come soon.

“My guess would be that by mid-December we should have everything sorted.”

It’s believed K-PAX could opt for a move away from McLaren 650S GT3s, although a final decision has not yet been made.

While not confirming the rumors, Law said they have a commitment to run at least two cars next year and would like to include both the GT and GTA classes “in some shape or form.”

“If we run a third [car], it would most likely be a customer car,” he said. “We’re open to that for sure but are looking for people that are interested to run with us.”

Despite news of a few withdrawals from the GT class, including the end of Cadillac Racing’s factory ATS.V-R program, Law is optimistic of seeing a strong grid in PWC next year.

“I’m upbeat about PWC,” he said. “I think it’s a great program and a great series.

“I do have some concerns with some of the teams that are leaving. But there are some new teams coming in. I hope the grids have a similar or greater amount of cars.

“It’s still top-level competition, so it doesn’t matter if we lose a couple or gain a couple, it’s not going to change the level of competition that’s out there.

“It’s been a great season this year with a huge fight. Multiple cars could have won and we look forward to that again next year.”

Flying Lizard Plans “Up in the Air”

Law, who also manages Flying Lizard Motorsports, said that team’s plans are a bit uncertain at this point, with no program yet confirmed for 2018.

The team campaigned two Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MRs in the GTS class for Rodrigo Baptista and Nate Stacy this year, achieving multiple wins with the Brazilian.

“The hope would be to return in GTS and run a similar two-car program like we did this year,” Law said. “Flying Lizard is a customer-based program. We know we can run a very good program and can run at the front of the grid.”
