Lime Rock Park will once again offer racing on Memorial Day Monday while hosting the Pirelli World Challenge for the first time since 2011.

Fans will now enjoy four days of events, including practices and qualifying on Fri., May 25, racing on Sat., May 26, a car show on Sun., May 27, and continued racing on Mon., May 28.

The PWC events will include all of the racing series’ classes including GT/GTA/GT Cup SprintX, GTS/GTSA SprintX, and three Touring Car categories – TCR, TC and TCA.

“The return of Monday races during the Pirelli World Challenge brings back the long-held tradition during Lime Rock Park’s season opener,” said Skip Barber, Owner and President of Lime Rock Park.

“This allows racing fans to enjoy a broad variety of events, including two days of racing and a car show on Sunday.”

PWC on Memorial Day Weekend is one of three major racing events held at Lime Rock Park and is comprised of one-hour, door-to-door sprint races in various GT and Touring categories.

The Royals’ Garage Sunday Car Show will be held on May 27, and delivers an up-close view of all types of cars.

During the weekend, spectators can view races from a grassy, park-like setting, gain an up-close view of the most exotic racing sedans in the world, and meet drivers and their crews.

Additional activities include a tour of the Midway filled with vendors, displays, good eats, and more.

“Whether camping here within the track’s infield for the full experience or just bringing the family for a day of fun, there’s no better place to celebrate Memorial Day than Lime Rock Park,” Barber said.

To honor our servicemen and women on Memorial Day weekend, the free general admission for veterans and active military that applies for all spectator events is also extended to their immediate families.

All youths 16 and under are free and there is no charge for general parking and paddock access.

Wow, racing on Monday. How awesome. We get to spend another night in the worst hotels in all of racing and spend more money on crew costs. Good thing Skip Barber is calling the shots for PWC’s schedule. Maybe he can add another day or two at Utah as well and solidify this as the worst PWC season schedule in history!

Why would the series do this to the teams? This weekend just got more expensive for team owners and it cuts into the paychecks of the crew who have other jobs outside of pwc.

Yes—I realize this is how it used to be in the GRANDAM days, but the racing economy has changed a lot since those days.

I think it would be of help with the gate. I couldn’t make Sat. because of family commitments, but now will bring whole family on Mon. May not be much, but am likely not the only one.

Also, and with all due respect, I thought the series was for the spectators, there are many tracks where owners can go racing without bothering about spectators.

If costs keep escalating, there will be no racing for fans to watch. Budgets were set back in the fall, with very little wiggle room. Most teams book all their travel far in advance to keep costs down. Schedule changes make it difficult for operations, especially when the series didn’t even notify competitors of the change. All due respect to the fans, but teams have a right to be frustrated with the amount of money they’re dumping into this already.

As a Canadian, Saturday would have been great. Monday, not so much. We don’t have the same holiday as you. Was looking forward to possibly heading down after work on Friday, catching the racing on Saturday, then driving home on Sunday. Not gonna happen now. I would have to burn both Monday and Tuesday as holidays. Not blowing 2 days for World Challenge. Great series, but not worth it.
