Heavy rain and standing water have caused Pirelli World Challenge officials to call off the second SprintX race of the weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

A statement from PWC read: “Due to a heavy rain storm Sunday afternoon at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Round 4 of the Pirelli World Challenge SprintX series has been postponed to a later date on the 2017 PWC schedule.

“Per PWC series chief steward Peter Roberts, the historic 2.458-mile, 10-turn road racing circuit had standing water around the racing surface including two sections of running water due to the constant rain system traveling through the Ontario area.”

WC Vision CEO Greg Gill said the series will make the race up at a later date.

“Our next time for SprintX is Lime Rock, which is a full schedule,” Gill told Sportscar365. “We’ll look at Utah [Motorsports Campus] as the first opportunity, and then Circuit of The Americas, and we’ll see what works best.”

Gill said the final decision is likely to come after Lime Rock next weekend.
