Ryan Hunter-Reay will sub for Harry Tincknell in next weekend’s Acura Sports Car Challenge at Mid-Ohio.

The 2012 NTT IndyCar Series champion and 2014 Indianapolis 500 winner will team up with Jonathan Bomarito in the No. 55 Mazda RT24-P for the fourth round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

Tincknell is unavailable due to his Ford Chip Ganassi Racing commitments in the FIA World Endurance Championship, a conflict that also prevented Team Joest endurance driver Olivier Pla from taking the seat.

Timo Bernhard was the sixth member of the two-car DPi team at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

It will mark Hunter-Reay’s first WeatherTech Championship start of the season after teaming with Jordan Taylor and Renger van der Zande for victory in last year’s season-ending Motul Petit Le Mans.

“The car is obviously very fast and I’m excited to race it at Mid-Ohio,” Hunter-Reay said. “Jonathan is a good friend and we’ve been teammates in the past, so it will be great to share the No. 55 Mazda RT24-P with him and fight for a win.

“I’ve driven race wining Daytona Prototypes in IMSA for a long time, the Prototype field is as strong and deep as it has ever been, and I’m thrilled to be a part of it again this season.”
